Book Review: Star Wars Heir to the empire
This is probably my favorite book. It is one of the best books I have ever read. It is called Star Wars: Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn. Some reasons are that the plot is unique. I the characters are done really good building on what they already were. The new characters are made extremely well and all of them are memorable. I will be spoiling a lot of this book so if you have not read it you should before reading this. You can get it at https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/heir-to-the-empire-timothy-zahn/1130986258.
Okay so this book is part of a the legend series. If you don't know what that basically when George Lucas owned Star Wars he let a bunch of independent authors make their own story-line. Then Disney bought Star Wars and created two separate time lines. Anyway this book is part of a trilogy of books this first one is the best in my opinion. That does not really say much about the next two books though.First why the plot is unique. Now if you are a fan of the legends series you will know that it has way to many super weapons. They also had the same problem with Disneys version. This version does not and that shows that Star Wars is more than just big super weapons.
Next why the characters are super good. He does a really good job of developing the characters from the original Star Wars trilogy. Showing how they fit in their new roles in the New Republic. It also shows how awkwardly they all fit into their new roles. It puts them into situations that the old characters are not prepared to deal with. This also shows how well they can adapt and how they grow as a character.
Next why the new characters are super memorable. First you have the main villain Thrawn. Thrawn shows himself as being a different imperial commander than the ones from the movies. He is respectful to his troops. He also prefers to out think his opponent to brute force. Next we have Talon Karrde who is a smuggler but kind of in opposition to Jaba the hut by being a very civilized smuggler. I have not even scratched the surface on new characters who are supper good.
I don't think this book is perfect. the diplomat parts are pretty boring although they are important they are my least favorite part of this book. The time it takes to travel in hyperspace is another issue. Now part of the hyperspace problem is that these books were made before the prequels and do have some timeline problems there.
Over all this is a really good book that you guys should pick up and read. You won't regret it.
I love Star Wars since I was a kid and you posting the books brings back so much nostalgia. I don't know if its the same book but I used to check out Star Wars books from the library as a kid. Imma have to check them out to see it is.

ReplyDeleteStar wars is an amazing universe that makes the world so much more interesting. The whole concept of lightsabers is cool in general, the force which is basically telekinesis so they are basically space samurai with super powers. Just nothing but pure joy fills my body when star wars comes on. I don't care I loved the prequals, Christian Hadenson was cool as heck playin Anakin Sky walker.
