Why I dislike the New Disney Star Wars trillogy#4

Disney Star Wars Trilogy | Pirates & Princesses

If you can't tell from the title I dislike this trilogy. I think that it was rushed and needed more time to be thought over. I think the people who were making these movies did not understand what made a Star Wars: A New Hope, Star Wars Empire Strikes Back, and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (original Trilogy) so good. Another thing they did not understand was why the Star Wars: A Phantom Menace, Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, and Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith (Prequels) bad. Along with bad world building make me not like this trilogy. last I think that they did a really bad job with their characters.

first I think I am going to go over why I like the original trilogy. George Lucas does an excellent job of developing his characters. They all keep to their character traits which makes them very well defined. this also allows them to grow over time throughout the trilogy. They also all have interesting interactions with the characters around them. An example of this is Luke's relationship to his father. Another is the world building. The original Trilogy did a good job of explaining things in satisfying ways. Letting everything you think will be important actually grow the plot. example is A New Hope talks about Jedi Empire Strikes Back shows what it means to be a Jedi.

The prequels are not my favorite to watch they have some definite problems. I think it has two big problems. The first problem is its passing. Its passing is bad because that is were peoples problem with the politics lie. They drag on for way too long and it makes everyone not like the politics. the second problem is the dialog. The lines are choppy and makes you feel like these are not people.

I am going to start with Star Wars: The Force Awakens. This one unlike the other two is actually kind of good. I think the problem with that is that it is all nostalgia based. You can see this in the ship designs. They all are the same or close to the same. Same also goes to planets. none of the new planets feel new or different. The plot is very close to the same as A New Hope. They also undid some character development so that some of the old characters can be the same. An example of this is Han Solo going back to smuggling. Another issue with is how hard it ran from the prequels. Ways it showed this is by not focusing on any politics. This leaves the movie explaining nothing. This makes the two trilogy's feel disjointed.

The next movie is Star Wars: The Last Jedi. This movie does some things right. The entire movie is not based on recapturing the feel of the originals. It's new ships I have the exact same opinion as the last movie. This movie does not do a good job of showing development for it's own characters. Fin repeats his entire character arc from the last movie. It also does the characters from the original trilogy real badly. The best example is Luke who they decided to make him a winy old hermit. They also had him do thing that just go against the character of the original trilogy. Like abandon his sister. this doesn't really make any sense. They also have him repeat a character ark he had in Return of the Jedi. Were he choose not to fight a person in a light saber duel. You also the whole thing on canto byte which just seems useless to the plot. It seems just there to give messages about greed and war. It doesn't really have a purpose in this movie.

The last movie is Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. I have the same opinion about ship designs as the last two movies. although I don't like the design of the final order. Now in this movie though they kind of go against the technology of the other few movies. It just stopped making sense. Like why can you now mount a world destroying laser on a star destroyer. The plot is pretty awful in this movie. The emperor resurrecting I don't mind. I do mind that the movies never explained how he was alive. The rest of the movie feels like a fetch quest. They go to a place to get an item then they leave that place and go to where they can use said item. It also ignores anything that happened in The Last Jedi. This leaves the trilogy feeling very disconnected. Also the characters don't really develop in this movie. They also kept adding characters who were super underdeveloped. this leaves me no real characters to care about.

This video has a lot of good point on how this trilogy is all a mess.

  1. Hello! I myself have not seen any of the Star Wars movies so I would not be able to agree or disagree, but you did a good job of explaining why you dislike the trilogy in different paragraphs in a thoughtful order.

  2. My main problem with the new trilogy isn't with it as a whole, but each movie individually. The first one pulled a Cyberpunk 2077 and had misleading marketing. Finn was shown with a lightsaber in every single poster and trailer so going into the movie I thought he would be the new Jedi. I started to get excited for it once I found out he was a Storm Trooper which could of lead to an interesting arch/conflict such as the possibility to change your future no matter your past and maybe him not wanting to fight the people he once fought along side with. They instead make Rey the Jedi was later in the film so I felt slightly deflated after watching it. The second one nothing happens, like from what I remember most of the film is them stuck in that ship fleeing the empire. Even when they finally escape and end up on that Hoth wannabe planet with the red sand (red sand was kinda cool tbh) they kinda are there for the short rest of the film before running again. The third film just sucked for the sheer fact that they brought Palpatine back from the dead and made Rey his daughter. This film felt so forced (no pun intended) that I just couldn't take it all to seriously. Disney has been doing good with Star Wars with the series on Disney+ though, so it is nice to see that modern takes on the franchise can do well.

  3. The new Star Wars trilogy movies sucked! The first one was alright, felt like it was setting everything up. The second one sucked, it was pretty boring and how that one dude started a mutiny because he thought he was some leader. The woman could've told him the plan and not wasted everyone's time. Then the last one was by far the worst. All of it was forgettable besides the worst parts that I sadly have to remember. And the ending when she said she was a Skywalker, my eyes rolled so far back that I could see my brain.
